In this letter we share important things, so please read it carefully.
First, fill in the form, we are asking important questions that will help us to make your trip unforgettable and safe.

What to pack:
- Warm clothes, warm hat, gloves/mittens, woolen socks, underlayers, warm jacket, warm trousers and winter shoes.
- Own towel for Arctic Ocean swimming
- Swimsuit
- Flip flops for Arctic Ocean and for indoor use in Vasatokka
- Personal toiletries and medicines. We do not provide shampoo/conditioner, only soap. We have a hairdryer in the sauna.
- Charger for your phone
Also, if you want, you can bring a flashlight/headlight and maybe a small pillow for bus rides.
Things to notice:
- Since you are a big group, take care that you´re on time and listen to your group leaders, they lead you to Vasatokka. The name of the bus company is Kukkolan Bussit and they handle all transfers.
- You have two buses and we will divide you in 4 groups
- There will be 2 different itineraries BUS 1 and BUS 2, you will get it before your trip starts, as well as accommodation lists.
- The group is divided in 2 also in every meal
- Vasatokka´s staff is responsible for all activities.
- Vasatokka Reception is open every day and helps you in any case. The reception phone number is +358400 670561. There is no personnel on site after reception closing time.
- We have free Wi-Fi in all our accommodations and in the common area.
- We have a small shop in reception, where you can buy candy, souvenirs, ice cream and soft drinks. Open during reception opening times.
- Board games available
- Game room in reception (pool, ping pong, etc.)
- Sledding is possible in our backyard, have fun in the snow
Safety:
- The nearest hospital: Rovaniemi (330km)
- The nearest Doctor: Ivalo (50km)
- EA: reception and activity guides
- Lake Muddusjärvi: Going to ice in front of Vasatokka is forbidden, ice is not strong enough
- If you go alone somewhere outdoors let someone know where you are and take care of your friends.
- Temperatures outdoors can be freezing, so keep wearing your hat, gloves and jacket every time you go outdoors.
- Indoors might also be quite cold so we recommend wearing long trousers and woolen socks, forget your shorts and tops.
- Every building has automatic smoke detectors and the alarm goes straight to the Fire department. We charge 160€ for a false alarm. Do NOT touch smoke detectors on the roof

Step 1, read the info and preliminary itinerary
What´s included?

Preliminary itinerary
Monday 16.12.
- 12.00 Rovaniemi train-station, transfer to Vasatokka. Stop and shop, and have a chance to buy some snacks.
- On the way, visit Santa Claus Village

- Gear rentals are open, you can rent winter boots and clothes. Bring your warm gloves and hat and warm woolen socks

INFO AND MOST-ASKED QUESTIONS
AFS insurance is valid for the duration of the trip. All AFS rules apply during the trip. AFS volunteers will be present to supervise and guide freetime activities and ensure freetime safety during the trip. You must book and pay for your own travel from your host family’s home to Rovaniemi and, after the trip, from Rovaniemi back to your host family’s home. Please bring your travel documents for the trip to Norway.
Can I stay in the same room with my friend?
We will send the accommodation wishlist list before arrival and try to make everyone happy.
Is there heating in the rooms?
Yes, all rooms have heating, and although this is an old building, we recommend wearing woolen socks and long pajamas.
Can we see the Northern Lights?
Vasatokka is a good place for that, we can not guarantee Northern Light but “fingers crossed”.
Is there wifi?
Yes, we have a wifi and it is free.
